Mandy’s gift from her ladies

Mandy walked around (and danced) all night holding her beautiful “Bride” wine glass given to her by her bridesmaids. The goblet’s color matched the wedding color perfectly and it brought am air of “PARTY!” everywhere she went.

Mandy & Billy celebrated their marriage with their family and friends at a beautiful reception at Mandy’s mom’s home in Jacksonville. The huge white tent and turquoise accents and yellow flowers everywhere were an exciting vision as guests arrived.

Jenna & Craig’s wedding decor at Hamilton’s

Jenna & Craig were married Friday, May 11, 2012, in the South Ballroom at Hamilon’s 110 North East in Jacksonville. The chair covers and bows transformed the room!

The room was first set up for the ceremony. Covered chairs with bows in the wedding colors surrounded the dance floor where the couple exchanged vows & rings.
The chairs were in rows for the ceremony.
The white table cloths made the napkins and centerpieces really pop.
The chairs at the head table alternated in color.
The gift table continued the purple & green theme.

Miranda & Larry – Irish wedding traditions

Miranda & Larry were married April 22, 2012, at Central Baptist Church in Springfield. The sanctuary was flooded with light from huge windows and the decor was simple and elegant.

The men in the bridal party and fathers wore kilts in the bride's family's tartan. The blue carpet in the sanctuary was a perfect match.
Clovers were grown especially for the wedding from seeds from Ireland.
Miranda's shoes were special order from Europe with her family's tartan.
The guys all looked so ... Irish!

Miranda & Larry included descriptions of some traditions in their wedding program, including this one: Irish tradition holds that bridesmaids wear white to confuse any fairs that want to cause mischief during the ceremony. Also, during Midieval times, it helped confuse anyone who wished to break up the ceremony and kidnap the bride for her dowry or ransom.

The bridesmaids wore sashes of the family tartan.

Michelle & Jordan wedding highlights

Michelle & Jordan’s New Year’s Eve wedding was awesome! Here are some of our favorite images.

The sanctuary at Laurel United Methodist Church in Springfield was still beautifully decorated for Christmas.
Guests with sparklers aways make for a fun exit from the church!
They met on a golf course, so the favors at the reception were a given!
The midnight festivities were celebrated with noise makers, tiaras and glow bracelets.
The couple presented a toast to their family and friends right before midnight.
Happy new year!!!
Here's to a great 2012!

Michelle & Jordan’s wedding was catered by Hamilton’s and Brad Schroeder was the DJ.

Katie & Jack’s caterers – 5 Flavors

5 Flavors did a great job catering Katie & Jack’s July 2 wedding at Erin’s Pavilion at Springfield’s Southwind Park. Not only was the food good, the service was great and the decor from 5 Flavors’ partner Signature Event Rental, was beautiful.

Katie talks to a 5 Flavors associate about how happy she is with the room.

Katie & Jack – Wedding highlights

Katie Duffin & Jack Contri were married July 2, 2011, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Springfield and their reception was at Erin’s Pavilion at Springfield’s new Southwind Park.

Enjoy some of our favorite moments from their wedding day!

Katie was given a special hanger which she used to hang her wedding gown on the special day. The hanger was a gift from friends who found it on one of my favorite gift websites – Etsy!

Jack and his brother Val chill out at their parents’ house before getting ready.

Katie’s mom, sister and other bridesmaids help her get ready to go to the park to meet her groom.

Jack & Katie decided to see each other before the ceremony. There was a wedding later in the day at this gazebo in Springfield’s Washington Park, but a call to the park district before the big day ensured it would be available when we needed it.

After a few minutes seeing each other for the first time on their big day, they were ready to head to Katie’s parents’ house for family and bridal party portraits.

Katie’s parents’ backyard includes a bridge over a creek that runs behind their house. Katie’s sister, Shannon spent hours earlier that week power washing the bridge so it would be ready for photos.

Katie and her father Dennis wait for the ceremony to begin. Katie’s mom Theresa surprised Katie by having the florist incorporate Theresa’s own wedding veil into Katie’s bridal bouquet.

Katie & Jack, along with their bridal party, entertained the guests with their entertaining, dancing entrance.

Shannon’s maid-of-honor speech included a prop. The prop illustrated stories of Katie’s graduate school days.

Val’s best man toast was heartfelt and reflected the brothers’ close relationship.

The wagon came in handy when it came to the garter toss.

We always keep an eye on when the sun is setting. If it’s an appropriate time for the bride and groom to leave their party for a few minutes, we try to use the beautiful light to our advantage.

My sister’s useful wedding favor

My sister and her husband Matt gave jars of rosemary-infused sea salt as favors at their Chicago-area wedding last month. I haven’t had much time to cook since then, but finally used it in this linguine & pesto recipe I made today. The rosemary went perfectly with the sage and parsley called for in the dish. It’s perfect warm-weather food. Thanks to Nicole & Matt for the great favor!

I got the recipe from Fitness Magazine – my subscription is an annual Christmas gift from Steve’s Aunt Kathy & Uncle George. Kathy is a fitness nut and loves to share her passion! Thanks for a great gift!

Decorating with a special drape

Prairie Production was the venue for Anne & Loren’s wedding in Chicago on Saturday, April 23, 2011. It’s a fantastic space because it’s a blank slate! There is so much that can be done to decorate. Anne’s cousin Melissa used her artistic talent to make a drape that separated the eating area from the ceremony area before and during the ceremony. When the eating area was ready for guests, the curtain was pulled back.

Highlights from Jessica & Kenny’s wedding

May 14, 2011, was the wedding day of Jessica & Kenny. They were married at Chapin Christian Church. It’s a beautiful, old church, and is the church Kenny grew up in.

One of the favors the guests found when they entered the reception was a bottle of Jones Soda with Jessica & Kenny’s photo on it! What a great idea for a favor! Wedding reception at Hamilton’s 110 North East.

The head table was treated to beautiful raspberry champaign cocktails.

The cake was amazing. The red strawberries went with the color scheme and who doesn’t love chocolate-covered strawberries?!

Aside: Pastor Steve Peters was the officiant, but his “day job” is banquet and catering director at Kickapoo Creek Winery in Edwards. Be sure to check out his venue for wedding receptions for the Peoria area.

Decorating the dance floor

For Jessica & Kenny’s wedding, Jessica wanted to add some pizzaz to the dance floor.

We have seen vinyl signs meant for dance floors, but we had not yet seen a transfer like this. Hamilton’s 110 North East let Jessica go ahead and give it a try. She said it was harder to get off than the vinyl sheets, but it did come off fairly easily – albeit in pieces.

The best part was that is took the dance traffic very well. Jessica said she bought it off the website etsy.com.

An aside: check out the WallTat video and WallTat web page by one of our brides, Jordan Guide (info also on her design blog). She has her own line of wall tattoos that might be fun for a personalized wedding day. We photographed her wedding to Jim (Shkëlaim) in 2008 with ceremony at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, reception at Venuti’s in Addison. They had a combination Albanian wedding and western ceremonies, a fun day for wedding photography!
